Be aware of scammers posing as Water Company Employees calling about an unpaid water bill. Water Company Employees will not call you demanding payment for a water bill nor will they ask for a credit card number and security code for payment of a water bill over the phone.
In the illustration below, the numbers above the words “cu ft” reflect the total number of cubic feet of water recorded since the meter was installed. Because our charge is based on units of 100 cubic feet (Ccf), the meter reader discards the last five (5) numbers to the right of the odometer read. So the current reading on the AMR Meter Register shown would be 000,0.
If the next time we read your meter and it is at 001,2, subtract 000,0 from 001,2 (current read) and you would get 12, which means you used 12 Ccf or 1,200 cubic feet (8,976 gallons) for that period. See illustration of AMR meter face below.
Turn off all water inside and outside, making sure that no one uses water during the test period.
Read your meter. Make a note of where the sweep hand is located on your meter.
Wait 10 to 15 minutes and see if the hand has moved.
If the hand has moved, there is a leak somewhere.
Leaks inside your home or business can be very expensive and can cause significant property damage. The customer is responsible for everything from the connection of their service line to Fontana Water Company’s coupling.
